Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, announced the university's first-ever inclusion in the QS Subject Rankings for Chemistry 2026, ranking in the 601-700 band globally and ninth nationally. The university also maintained its distinguished presence in Medicine, achieving a global ranking of 601-650 and eighth place among Egyptian universities. This reflects the continuous development of academic and research performance and underscores the university's success in enhancing its competitiveness both locally and internationally.
The University President affirmed that Tanta University's first-ever ranking in Chemistry, placing it in the 601-700 range globally, coupled with its continued excellence in Medicine, ranking in the 601-650 range, represents a significant leap forward, confirming its progress towards international recognition. He noted that this advancement is the result of well-planned institutional work, explaining that the university is developing a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes international rankings. This strategy focuses on supporting high-quality scientific research and innovation, developing the research environment to increase international publication rates in high-impact journals, and strengthening international partnerships. This includes expanding scientific agreements with prestigious international universities to exchange expertise and enhance student and faculty exchange.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the entire university community, commending the dedicated efforts of faculty members and researchers. He also specifically thanked the university's International Ranking Unit and the ranking teams in the colleges, who worked diligently and professionally to monitor and analyze data and highlight the strengths of the university's institutional performance.
Prof. Hatem Amin, Vice President of the University for Studies and Research, explained that the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2026 is one of the largest editions launched by the ranking to date, as this year it includes 55 specific subjects distributed across five main academic fields, and includes more than 1,900 educational institutions around the world, including more than 300 institutions that appeared for the first time in the ranking, which reflects the expansion of the base of academic competition at the international level. The QS ranking of subjects is one of the most prominent global rankings specializing in evaluating universities, as it is based on five main indicators whose relative weights vary according to the nature of each subject, and they include: academic reputation, graduate reputation with employers, average scientific citations per research paper, the H-Index, in addition to the international research collaboration network.
