The Faculty of Engineering at Tanta University honored the winning teams in the competition “Designing a Tourist Route in One of the Heritage Villages in the Delta Region,” which was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, and under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Nasr, Dean of the Faculty. The event was organized in coordination with the Departments of Architecture and Urban Planning and Design, and was attended by Prof. El-Sayed El-Agouz, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Abdel Hakim Abdel Khaleq, former President of the University; Prof. Walaa Nour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Shahira Sharaf El-Din, Head of the Architecture Department; Prof. Marwa Qamr El-Dawla, Head of the Urban Planning and Design Department; as well as a distinguished group of faculty members and supervisors of participating teams from various universities.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, affirmed that the university places strong emphasis on supporting student excellence and innovation, noting that this competition reflects the university’s pioneering role in community service and environmental development. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Egyptian state’s vision for developing the Egyptian countryside and preserving the heritage identity of the Delta region. He further added that the university continuously strives to transform student projects from mere academic ideas into practical solutions that contribute to creating real development opportunities, linking engineering education outcomes with labor market needs and the sustainable tourism industry. The university president also praised the high level of competitiveness and discipline demonstrated by the teams throughout the various stages of the competition, affirming that the distinction of Tanta University students and their achievement of first place is the result of collective effort and outstanding academic guidance.
Prof. Ahmed Nasr explained that the competition witnessed strong competition among 14 teams, of which 12 completed all stages, representing the universities of Tanta, Horus, New Mansoura, Galala, and the Higher Institute of Egypt in Mansoura. The projects focused on developing the villages of Mahallat Rouh, Sa El-Hagar, Ezbet El-Borg, and Abiana.
The judging and discussion committee included Prof. Walaa Nour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Dalia Shabl, Head of the Architecture Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Kafr El-Sheikh University; and Prof. Mohamed Youssef, Professor of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Regional and Urban Planning, Cairo University.
The final results concluded with Tanta University winning first place, followed by Misr Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology in Mansoura (El-Sallab Academy) in second place, while Horus University secured third place.
