    In a new medical achievement that reflects the integration of specialties within Tanta University Hospitals, Prof. Mohamed Hussein Mahmoud, President of Tanta University, announced the success of the medical team at the University Children's Cancer Hospital «formerly 57357 Tanta Branch» in implementing a pivotal phase of an integrated treatment plan for a one-and-a-half-year-old child suffering from a fourth-degree cancerous tumor, through joint cooperation between the pediatric oncology, oncology surgery and bone marrow transplantation teams.

    The child underwent a comprehensive treatment protocol that began with receiving intensive doses of chemotherapy in the hospital with the aim of controlling cancer cells, reducing the size of the tumor, and preparing the case for surgical intervention. This was followed by a delicate surgery during which the medical team succeeded in completely removing the tumor, in addition to removing the affected lymph nodes in the abdomen, allowing the transition to the next stage of the planned treatment program for the case.

    Prof. Mohamed Hussein stressed that the development of children's cancer hospital services comes in light of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to improve the quality of health services provided to citizens and enhance the capacity of university medical institutions to provide specialized care, and within the framework of the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Prof. Abdel Aziz Qansouh, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to maximize the role of university hospitals in serving the community and achieving integration within the national health system. He stressed that Tanta University aims to consolidate the position of its university hospitals as reference medical centers for the Delta region, capable of dealing with delicate and complex cases and providing integrated treatment paths that reduce the need for patients to move outside the region.

    The university president added that the University Children's Cancer Hospital represents one of the strategic components of the university hospital system at Tanta University, and a major pillar in providing advanced specialized medical services to children with tumors from the cities and governorates of the Delta region, noting that the university is continuously working to support the hospital's capabilities and develop its equipment and services in a way that enhances its regional role and ensures the availability of specialized health care to citizens at the highest levels of quality and efficiency.

    For his part, Prof. Mohamed Hantira, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, explained that the prior and continuous coordination between the pediatric oncology, surgery and bone marrow transplant teams was a key factor in the safe and accurate handling of the case, noting that the treatment journey began with intensive doses of chemotherapy to reduce the tumor mass and prepare the child for surgical intervention, followed by the complete removal of the tumor and the affected lymph nodes. He added that the marrow transplant team has already begun preparing the child, making the necessary preparations, and separating the stem cells in preparation for autologous marrow transplantation in accordance with the treatment protocol prescribed for the case, stressing that joint planning between the three teams allows for an orderly transition between the treatment stages and enhances the chances of reaching the best possible treatment results.

    Prof. Mohamed Hantira thanked the surgical team that performed the complete removal of the tumor and the affected lymph nodes, led by Dr. Ahmed El Gendy, and with the participation of Dr. Mahmoud Daragham, Dr. Ahmed Yehia, and Dr. Ahmed Mansour, appreciating the efforts of the anesthesia and intensive care teams, the nursing staff, and the infection control team, and their role in the success of this delicate stage of the child's treatment journey.

    In the same context, Prof. Hassan Al-Tatawi, Executive Director of University Hospitals, praised the medical integration model presented by the case, stressing that the close cooperation between the specialties of pediatric oncology, surgery and bone marrow transplantation enhances the ability of the University Children's Cancer Hospital to deal with complex cases according to an integrated treatment system, and supports the university's orientation towards providing advanced specialized medical services to the people of the Delta region, and reducing the need for patients to move to treatment centers outside the governorate.

    Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashad, Executive Director of the University Children's Cancer Hospital, confirmed that the hospital continues to develop its capabilities and medical services with the aim of localizing the various stages of treatment for children's tumors within the hospital, from diagnosis, chemotherapy, surgery, and even bone marrow transplantation, noting that what was achieved in this case reflects the extent of cooperation between all participating medical teams.

    Al-Mashad concluded his statements by emphasizing the hospital's continued efforts to provide the best possible care for sick children, wishing the child a speedy recovery and a successful completion of his treatment. He emphasized that successive successes represent an incentive to continue developing medical services and expanding the provision of specialized care for the most complex cases.
