Tanta University strengthens the strategy of internationalizing education... Rising growth in the number of international students in postgraduate programs

Prof. Mohamed Hussein: Internationalizing education and scientific research is a strategic axis to enhance Tanta University's competitiveness regionally and internationally


Prof. Hatem Amin: We aim to attract more international students for postgraduate studies and expand the base of nationalities enrolled at the university


    During its regular meeting for the month of August 2026, headed by Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of the University, the Tanta University Council reviewed a presentation on the development of indicators of international students in postgraduate programs in the university's colleges during the last three years, and the increasing growth rates achieved by the university in the number of students, diversity of nationalities, and dollar return.


    The presentation revealed an increase in the number of incoming students from 353 students in the 2023/2024 academic year to 439 students in 2024/2025, reaching 571 students in 2025/2026, with an overall increase rate of 61.76%, while the annual growth rate during the last year reached 30.07%. The number of nationalities registered in postgraduate programmes also increased from 16 to 20 nationalities during the same period.


    Prof. Mohamed Hussein stressed that the internationalization of education and scientific research represents one of the strategic axes that Tanta University is working on to enhance its position and competitiveness at the regional and international levels, through expanding the building of academic and research partnerships with prestigious international universities and institutions, developing student exchange programs and exchanging faculty members and researchers, and supporting attractive study programs for international students. This contributes to building an international university environment and enhancing the university's presence on the global higher education map.


    The university president added that the university is moving forward in this file in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Prof. Abdel Aziz Qansouh, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and its aim of enhancing the quality and competitiveness of the Egyptian university education system and expanding international partnerships to increase the number of international students by 50%, stressing that attracting international students does not represent only an educational dimension; rather, it is an important indicator of the quality of academic programs, confidence in the university institution, and its ability to compete internationally.


    For his part, Prof. Hatem Amin, Vice President for postgraduate Studies and Research, explained that the indicators included in the presentation reflect clear implementation steps for Tanta University's strategy to internationalize graduate studies and increase its ability to attract international students. He pointed out that the next phase aims to expand distinguished academic programs and promote them internationally, facilitate procedures and services provided to international students, and strengthen international partnerships and agreements to support increasing the number of students and the diversity of their nationalities in the university's faculties.


    The Vice President of the University pointed out that the College of Dentistry topped the number of expatriate students during the academic year 2025/2026 with 195 students, followed by the Colleges of Commerce and Nursing with 70 students each. The Colleges of Nursing, Commerce and Dentistry also achieved the highest growth rates during the last three years.


    The presentation also showed that the growth in the number of international students is reflected in economic indicators, as dollar income increased by 46.02% between 2023/2024 and 2025/2026, and the faculties of dentistry, nursing and commerce topped the faculties with the highest total dollar income for international students.
