Prof. Muhammad Hussein:
- More than 44 million pounds for medical care and financial aid for students during the academic year 2025/2026
- Additional support for housing and subsistence in university cities, exemptions from tuition fees, compensatory devices, and equipped laptops for students with disabilities
Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, confirmed that the university continues to expand social protection and health care programs for its students, based on its social responsibility and commitment to providing a safe and supportive educational environment that guarantees equal opportunities and reduces economic burdens on students and their families.
He noted that the total cost of medical services and financial assistance provided to students during the 2025/2026 academic year amounted to approximately EGP 44.19 million. Of this amount, EGP 37.62 million was allocated to medical treatment and healthcare services, benefiting 18,793 students. These services included the provision of medications, medical tests, and surgical procedures performed both within and outside the university hospitals. In addition, financial assistance totaling EGP 6.57 million was provided to eligible students in accordance with the approved regulations and criteria.
The University President clarified that these allocations are in addition to the other forms of support provided by the university to its students, particularly assistance with accommodation and subsistence services in university dormitories, which helps ease the financial burden on students living away from home and their families.
He further highlighted the comprehensive range of support and accessibility services provided to students with disabilities. These include waivers of tuition fees, accommodation in university dormitories, the provision of assistive devices free of charge, and the provision of laptops equipped with assistive technologies and software tailored to the nature of each student's disability and individual needs. These services aim to enhance students' independence, improve their academic performance, and ensure their full participation in university life.
Prof. Mohammed Hussein added that the concept of social protection adopted by the university goes beyond the limits of financial aid and medical services, to include an integrated system of educational, health and social care, aiming to remove economic and health obstacles facing students, and ensure their stability and continuity in the educational process without discrimination.
He stressed that supporting students with disabilities represents an institutional priority based on the principles of integration, availability and equal opportunities by preparing the university environment and providing the tools and equipment that enable them to exercise their educational rights equally.
The President of Tanta University emphasized that investing in student welfare and social protection represents a direct investment in human development and capacity building. He noted that this approach is aligned with the Egyptian state's vision of strengthening social protection systems, promoting social justice, and ensuring equal opportunities.
He further affirmed that the university will continue to develop its student solidarity programs and expand the scope of healthcare and social services to ensure that economic or health-related circumstances do not become obstacles to students' continued education or academic excellence. These efforts also contribute to building a more supportive, inclusive, and cohesive university community, capable of empowering all its members.
