Tanta University Launches the Campaign “Illiteracy-Free Gharbia” with Participation of 7 Faculties

Prof. 'Emad 'Etman, Tanta University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, announced today launching the campaign “Illiteracy-Free Gharbia” under patronage of Prof. Magdi Sab', University President, in cooperation with the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education with participation of faculties of Education, Arts, Specific Education, Law, Agriculture, and Commerce.

   Prof. 'Emad 'Etman affirmed that the campaign “Illiteracy-Free Gharbia” was launched out of belief of Tanta University in the social responsibility towards participation in the national project of literacy. He highlighted that educating our families was a protection for us and that University students were main partners in that campaign as they were the foundation of our nation and its future. He expressed his appreciated their national role towards their families, community and homeland, adding that the university had started preparing a list of densely populated villages in order to help students to go there.

    This occurred in the framework of honoring University students who participated in the literacy project organized by Faculty of Arts in attendance of Prof. Al-Refa'I Mubarak, University Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Mustafa Al-Sheikh, Acting Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Mamdouh Al-Masri, Faculty Dean; and Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Abo Al-Nabayel, General Manager of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education in Gharbia.

   Prof. Al-Refa'I Mubarak declared that students from Tanta University who were 120 thousand students were able to achieve literacy and eliminating illiteracy completely as each student taught 5 persons. He appreciated the mutual and effective cooperation between both sectors of Student Affairs and Community Service

   Prof. Mustafa Al-Sheikh called for solidarity of all governmental institutions to eradicate illiteracy. He hoped that there will come a day when Egypt celebrates computer literacy such as European states.

   Prof. Mamdouh Al-Masri stated that the University played great role in community service. He asked students to take part in literacy program and to help governmental bodies through educating individuals by students in their villages or towns.    

  Mr. Mohammed Abo Al-Nabayel, General Manager of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education in Gharbia, thanked Faculty of Arts for hosting the symposium. He voiced his appreciation to Tanta University, Prof. Magdi Sabi', and vice presidents for this campaign, calling students to participate in it.

  At the end of the symposium, 12 students who participated in literacy of 34 learners were honored. In addition, they were given certificates of appreciation as well as a sum of 500 EGP. 200 EGP were presented from Prof. 'Emad 'Etman, 200 EGP from the General Authority for Literacy, and 100 EGP from Department of Arabic Language. The honored students were Mai Ahmed Fouda, Aya Mohammed Ibrahim, Reham Bassam Hamed, Marwa Gamal, Mohammed Al-Hennawi, Marium Abdel Shafi, Fathi Samy, Rawda Mamdouh, Hassnaa Fouad, Wafaa Hassan, Ahmed Hassan, Marwa Emad Al-Din and Rania Maher.  

   Furthermore, members of academic staff were honored namely Prof. Ahmed Ebada, Vice Dean of Faculty of Arts; Prof. Hassan Rashid, Vice Dean of Faculty of Specific Education for Community Service; Prof. Mohammed Al-Sayed Ahmed, Vice Dean of Faculty of Agriculture; and Eman Ra'fat Badr, General Coordinator of Protocols; in addition to Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Abo Al-Nabayel, General Manager of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education in Gharbia.    

   The honoring ceremony was attended by Prof. Abdel Hamid Al-Shennawy, Dean of Faculty of Education, vice deans of faculties for community service and environmental development, academic staff, assistant staff, heads of scientific departments and a huge group of students.
