A medical team at the International Teaching Hospital managed to conduct an urgent cardiac catheterization to widen severe stenosis of the bicuspid aortic valve for a 20-day-old infant, who was suffering from severe heart muscle weakness and high pulmonary artery pressure.
For his part, Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, Tanta University President, commended the accuracy and efficiency of the surgical team that included doctors from departments of Cardiology, Pediatric Surgery, and Anesthesiology, Surgical Intensive Care and Pediatrics in conducting the two-hour catheterization. He declared that the success of the operation is due to the quality medical equipment of Tanta University Hospitals which are similar to the international hospitals proving the good performance at the International Teaching Hospital of Tanta University.
Moreover, Prof. Ahmed Ghoneim, Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of University Hospitals’ Board, indicated that the urgent cardiac catheterization to widen severe stenosis of the bicuspid aortic valve is considered one of the rare medical interventions, especially for the newborn. He pointed out that a medical team of many specialties was immediately formed to conduct the catheterization which ended successfully, and that the infant’s case became stable. He highlighted that the medical team included Dr. Raghda Al-Sheikh, Dr. Dina Abdul Salam, Dr. Aliaa Sha’ban, and Dr. Noran Mustafa from Cardiology Department; Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharaby, Dr. Ahmed Mohsen, Dr. Omar Qassem, and Dr. Ahmed Waly from Pediatric Surgery Department; Dr. Hadeel Al-Sagheer, Dr. Marian Reda, Dr. Ahmed Al-Demerdash, Dr. Hanan Al-Saqqa, and Dr. Mohammed Khudir from Anesthesiology Department; and Dr. Rawan Al-Deeb, and Dr. Basema Ahmed from Pediatric Department. The nursing staff included Mohammed Nassef, Khadra Al-Sayyed and Ahmed Al-Sheikh.
