Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, “We Organized 330 Convoys in the Neediest Villages Offering Medical Care Services to 267 Thousand Patients”

    A comprehensive medical convoy was organized today by Tanta University in Tafahna Al-Azab village located in Zefta district in Gharbia governorate, in the context of enhancing the presidential initiative “Decent Life” and celebrating the university’s golden jubilee.

   Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, University President, declared that on the anniversary of 30th June revolution, the university is issuing a book documenting its participation in Decent Life initiative. It will show that the university organized 330 huge convoys in the neediest villages inside and outside the governorate serving more than 267 thousand patients; some of them were transferred to University Hospitals. In addition, the convoys offered financial aids and economic empowerment. There were also agricultural, outreach, veterinary, cultural and literacy convoys.

    Furthermore, Prof. Hamdy Shaaban, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, indicated that the university is keen on organizing a series of comprehensive environmental medical convoys in many needy villages to serve the surrounding community and solve citizens’ problems in districts of Gharbia governorate with participation of various faculties of the university and University Hospitals.

   Moreover, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shebiny stated that 1255 patients in the village were examined and were given medicaments for free in specialties of neurosurgery, pediatrics, orthopedic surgery, dermatology, internal medicine, urology, ENT, general surgery, chest, neuropsychiatry, ophthalmology, cardiology, cardiovascular medicine and dentistry. He added that 72 cases were transferred to University Hospitals to get their treatment.

    The convoy was held with participation of faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Science, Nursing, Physical Education, Agriculture, and Specific Education. There was also a veterinary convoy. In addition, a literacy exam was held for 17 citizens in the framework of the national strategy for eliminating illiteracy.

    It is worth noting that the convoy was held with participation of Prof. Sahar Al-Haggar, Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Nehal Atef, Vice Dean of Faculty of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Adel Helal, Vice Dean of Faculty of Agriculture for Community Service and Environmental Development; as well as many academic staff members from different faculties of the university, Mr. Mohammed Ghazy, General Manager of Environmental Projects, and Mr. Maher Saad, General Manager of Community Service.
