A comprehensive medical convoy was sent by Tanta University today to Kafrekla El-Bab village located in Santa district in Gharbia governorate to examine patients, to give them medicaments for free, and to enhance Decent Life initiative in the context of celebrating the university’s golden jubilee.
Prof. Mahmoud Zaki, university President, asserted that the university is keen on participation in the presidential initiatives launched in health sector to promote Egyptians’ health and to implement human development strategy. He declared that the university is adopting the slogan “A Medical Convoy Everyday” to serve the neediest villages in Gharbia. Moreover, the convoys reached many border governorates in the framework of the university’s role in community service.
Furthermore, Prof. Mahmoud Salim, University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, pointed out that Tanta University supports the health system through the convoys it organizes in the neediest villages of the governorate to offer quality medical care to patients, to give them medicaments for free, and to transfer serious cases to University Hospitals to get the required treatment for free.
In addition, Prof. Mohammad Al-Shebiny, Vice Dean of Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development, stated that 1027 patients in the village were examined and were given medicaments for free; 74 patients were transferred to University Hospitals.
Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy took part in the convoy as well as Faculty of Nursing that made an outreach convoy where lectures were given about first aid in emergency, self-examination for early detection of breast cancer, and nutrition for children and the elderly. The convoy also included immediate literacy exams for 50 citizens under the umbrella of the national strategy for eliminating illiteracy.
It is worth noting that the convoy was held with participation of Prof. Sahar Al-Haggar, Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Mahmoud Shakal, Manager of the Main Center for International Relations and International Students’ Affairs; many university professors, Mr. Mohammad Ghazy, General Manager of Environmental Projects; and Mr. Maher Saad, General Manager of community service.
