Prof. Mohamed Hussein:
Sincere appreciation to Lt. Gen. Kamel Al-Wazir for supporting applied education for university students
We are committed to enhancing students’ national awareness by introducing them to the efforts of the Egyptian state and its major projects
The ACI Student Chapter at Tanta University organized a scientific field visit for students of the Structural Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, to Al-Rawda Station. The visit was held under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Hussein, Tanta University President.
Al-Rawda Station is part of Phase I of Metro Line 4, a vital project linking Cairo, Giza, and 6th of October City. The line extends 19 km and includes 17 stations. Orascom Construction is responsible for executing its civil works.
Prof. Mohamed Hussein emphasized the university’s constant commitment to organizing student visits to major national projects, with the aim of familiarizing students with national development plans, strategies, and the scale of planning, implementation, and operational efforts involved. This helps strengthen their national awareness and ensures their readiness for effective participation in development. He extended sincere thanks and appreciation to Lt. Gen. Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, and to the project teams for hosting this important visit and for their ongoing support of applied education at the university.
The President of Tanta University also praised the outstanding activities of the ACI Student Chapter, stressing that the university attaches great importance to student activities that connect academic study with practical application. He added that the university strongly supports scientific societies whose initiatives help prepare engineering cadres capable of competing in regional and international labor markets by providing them with hands-on experience before graduation.
Prof. Ahmed Nasr added that this visit comes as part of the intensive activities organized by the ACI Student Chapter, including competitions and field visits to provide students with practical experience and direct application of engineering concepts. The chapter also organizes specialized dialogue programs hosting prominent engineers and professors to connect students with the job market and global expertise. Members of the chapter enjoy exclusive access to ACI research, aligning them with the latest international standards in the field.
Prof. Emad Atman explained that the student delegation was received by engineers from the National Authority for Tunnels, who organized a comprehensive tour during which students learned about the latest engineering methods used in tunnel excavation and station construction, as well as the newest construction and design techniques used in this national mega-project. The visit aimed to strengthen the theoretical and scientific understanding of students and develop their professional skills through direct exposure to real work environments.
It is worth noting that the visit included a group of 24 students from the Structural Engineering Department. The visit was held under the academic supervision of Prof. Emad Atman, former Vice President of Tanta University, and Prof. Reda Negati, Director of the Concrete Laboratory. The delegation was supervised by Prof. Farag Abdel-Gawad Farag, lecturer in Structural Engineering (Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering). They were accompanied by teaching assistants Eng. Ahmed El-Faqi and Eng. Sara El-Roweiny.
The ACI Student Chapter at Tanta University was recognized as the Best Student Chapter in Egypt for the academic year 2023–2024.
