In line with the directives of the political leadership and within the framework of the presidential initiative “Decent Life”, Tanta University has launched its first specialized medical convoys aimed at caring for the elderly and orphans in Al Gharbia Governorate, beginning with a comprehensive field visit to the "Al-Huda Boys" home. The convoy provided integrated healthcare services to approximately 133 residents of the home, including medical examinations and the free provision of necessary treatments. This initiative marks the commencement of an intensive schedule during the holy month of Ramadan, encompassing a series of visits to the "Improving Health," "Resala in Kafr Esam," and "Al-Shorouk for Elderly Women" homes, ensuring that medical services reach all eligible beneficiaries across the governorate.
Professor Dr. Mohamed Hussein, President of Tanta University, emphasized that these activities reflect the university’s strategy to support major presidential initiatives by leveraging its leadership role and societal responsibility, as well as its scientific and medical capabilities, to serve the citizens of Al Gharbia across all segments of society, with a particular focus on elderly care and providing them with a dignified life, as part of the university’s national and social responsibility.
Prof. Mahmoud Selim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, clarified that the sector’s operational plan has been designed to align with the concept of “Fourth-Generation Universities”, aiming to achieve integration and partnership with government entities and civil society organizations. He noted that these convoys are based on a careful study of local and regional developmental needs, striving to provide a pioneering model of effective community engagement that addresses the real needs of citizens, ensuring the sustainability and positive impact of the services provided.
The medical services offered were diverse, covering several specialties. Examinations included 21 cases in Pediatrics, 21 cases in Pulmonology, and 21 cases in Ophthalmic Surgery. Additionally, the Dermatology Department attended to 16 cases, the Internal Medicine Department 18 cases, the ENT Department 18 cases, and approximately 15 cases received psychological and neurological support.
